| A little about our company: | A little about our products: |
|
We strive to produce products in the style, materials, and methods which rural American craftsmen would have used when America was young. Function is the most important aspect of a piece of furniture for us. We strive to use solid wood, even for some backs and unseen areas. We will use plywood products if it will result in a better piece of furniture. Does that mean we're using spring-pole lathes, and hand chisels and planes? Well, not exactly. We use power tools whenever practical. But much of our work requires hand tools to get fits right and get the pieces shaped like we want. You won't see the ornate furniture that master craftsmen would have produced in places like Philadelphia and Williamsburg. Instead, you'll see pieces inspired by what the peoples before us used every day to make their lives easier. Not cherries and mahoganies, but ashes and maples and poplars. Not mirror-smooth varnishes, but milk paint. I think as our world becomes more and more technical, we strive for a tangible piece of history to settle us down and simplify things a bit. I hope that some piece that we produce can provide this for you. And we're constantly researching past furniture pieces to find ways to fit them into a modern function. Who in the 1800's could have seen that the common lap desk could be adapted so well to a laptop computer? Or that a shaker cupboard works great for holding DVD's and CD's? And don't think we're so arrogant as to think we have all the great ideas. No way. If you've got a piece you'd like made, call or email us. We'll consider your idea and if we think we can do it, we'll draw it out, and talk prices. No obligations. No commitments to get things started. |
